Yesterday, the Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CVSA) released the results of Roadcheck 2013.

According to the CVSA, out-of-service violations dropped in 2013.

During the three-day inspection blitz, 73,023 trucks and buses were inspected, and a total of 47,771 were subjected to Level I inspections.  In total, 20.6% were ordered OOS.

CVSA reported that 49.6% of OOS violations were related to brake issues.

This year, inspectors focused on cargo securement.  11.7% of those trucks inspected were taken OOS because of inadequate cargo securement.

A total of 71,630 driver inspections were conducted.  4.3% received OOS violations. In addition, 899  seatbelt violations were issued.

“The strong enforcement presence involved in Roadcheck and throughout the year is a critical component in our safety efforts across North America,” Colorado State Patrol Maj. Mark Savage, who is CVSA’s president, said in a statement. “Inspectors are making a huge impact and they are to be commended for their efforts.
