Delaware Backup Alert Law Goes Into Effect Soon

Published:

Effective January 1, 2014, all trucks in Delaware with a gross weight of 26,001 pounds or more will be required to be equipped with an audible beeping signal that sound when the vehicle is backing up.

The new law requires Delaware CMVs to have a backup camera or an audible alerting device to alert the driver there is an object behind the truck.

The law applies to all non-farm CMVs that are titled on or after January 1.

Those who fail to comply with the law will face a $75 to $175 fine.

The law will be named after Dana Martino, a Delaware woman who was struck and killed by a delivery truck in 2009.
