Delivery Truck Dangles Over Florida Bridge

Published:

It was a dramatic scene in Ft. Lauderdale this morning.  A Tracy Bakery delivery truck crashed into the guardrail then was catapulted over the guardrail of westbound State Road 84.

The truck was crunched against a pillar and dangling over Interstate 95.

The crash occurred just before 6:00 a.m., and shutdown traffic in the area.

Rescuers used a ladder truck to help free the driver.  He was loaded onto a stretcher and taken by ambulance to the hospital.  WSVN reported the driver is in stable condition.

“And they were able to send their ladder up to the cab of the suspended truck, they got the driver out of the cab of the truck and they assisted him to crawl down the ladder to safety,”  Fort Lauderdale Police Detective Deanna Garcia told WSVN.

WSVN is reporting that the truck’s passenger died at the scene.

“The bakery’s manager is now speaking out about the tragic accident. Mary Rodriguez said she doesn’t know why her driver took I-95 to get to Tampa for a scheduled delivery at 10 a.m. ‘It’s very upsetting to hear what happened. We don’t know how the accident occurred, but when there’s a fatality involved, it’s very difficult,’ she said,” WSVN reported.

The delivery truck was headed for Tampa with a load of frozen bread.

At this time, the cause of the accident is unknown.
