At approximately 8:25 a.m., on Monday morning, 46-year-old truck driver Alberto Gamez was traveling west on Interstate 84 near mile marker 212 in Oregon. Â Gamez was traveling at approximately 5 mph, on his way to a repair facility to get two of his flat trailer tires repaired.
Thirty-eight-year-old truck driver Wade Wood was also traveling west on Interstate 84 and was approaching Gamez from behind. Â Wood failed to notice the slow-moving truck in time and crashed into the back of Gamez’s truck.
According to the Union Bulletin, Â Wood admitted to being distracted by his cell phone prior to the crash.
Gamez and his wife- who was his passenger- were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. Â His daughter, who was also in the truck, was not injured.
Wood was also transported to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Both Wood and Gamez received citations from the Oregon State Patrol: Gamez for operating and unsafe vehicle and Wood for following too closely.
Wood was also transported to St. Anthony Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
