At approximately 8:25 a.m., on Monday morning, 46-year-old truck driver Alberto Gamez was traveling west on Interstate 84 near mile marker 212 in Oregon. Gamez was traveling at approximately 5 mph, on his way to a repair facility to get two of his flat trailer tires repaired.
Thirty-eight-year-old truck driver Wade Wood was also traveling west on Interstate 84 and was approaching Gamez from behind. Wood failed to notice the slow-moving truck in time and crashed into the back of Gamez’s truck.
According to the Union Bulletin, Wood admitted to being distracted by his cell phone prior to the crash.
Gamez and his wife- who was his passenger- were taken to a local hospital and treated for minor injuries. His daughter, who was also in the truck, was not injured.
Wood was also transported to a hospital and treated for minor injuries.
Both Wood and Gamez received citations from the Oregon State Patrol: Gamez for operating and unsafe vehicle and Wood for following too closely.
Wood was also transported to St. Anthony Hospital where he was treated and released for minor injuries.
