Driver Attacked After Hitting Pedestrian

Published:

A Saturday night accident left one man dead and put one in the hospital.

The incident occurred at approximately 3:30 a.m., on Saturday.  Police say that William Jennings, 28, and another man were attempting to cross Central Avenue in Colonie, New York, when Jennings was struck by a truck and was killed.

The Times Union reported that the truck driver saw the men crossing the 4-lane highway, slowed and tried to avoid hitting the men but was unable to avoid striking Jennings.

The 48-year-old truck driver realized he hit one of the men.  He stopped his truck and got out.  That’s when the driver was attacked and beaten by an unknown man or group of men who are now at-large.

According to the Times Union, “A second witness told the Times Union that Jennings was being unruly with a group in the parking lot of Shenanigans Gentleman’s Club and ran into the street, where he was hit.”

Jennings died at the scene and the truck driver was transported to Albany Medical Center Hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The Colonie Police Department is investigating the accident and beating of the driver.  They’re asking witnesses to call (518) 783-2744.
