On Sunday morning, in Hamilton County, Tennessee, truck driver James Bankhead’s truck flipped, causing his 30,000 pound load of mulch to spill across the roadway.
The incident occurred on W Road, a non-truck route. Bankhead was traveling along the road when he was forced to turn around because the road was closed. As he was heading back down the road, Bankhead’s tires went off the road and into the ditch when he was going around a sharp curve, causing the trailer to flip, WDEF reported.
Bankhead told authorities he ended up on the truck-restricted road because he was following the directions from his GPS.
WDEF asked Bankhead if he saw the signs along the route that stated no trucks were allowed on the road and that the road was closed ahead.
“I saw the sign down there but the GPS kept taking up that way and I was trying to get to my destination,” Bankhead told the station.
During an investigation, authorities found that Bankhead was using a non-commercial GPS.
