On March 12, 2013, Alanis-Alanis drove a 2004 Freightliner into the Falfurrias U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint. When he was directed by Border Patrol agents to an area for further inspection, Alanis-Alanis instead fled down Highway 281.
“Border Patrol agents said that Alanis-Alanis drove a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer into the Falfurrias U.S. Border Patrol checkpoint on March 12, 2013. When he was directed by Border Patrol agents to an area for further inspection, Alanis-Alanis instead fled northbound on U.S. Highway 281 at speeds of approximately 70 miles per hour. Agents pursued the tractor-trailer and, at one point, were forced into the median by Alanis-Alanis when he jerked the wheel, bringing the tractor-trailer across both lanes of traffic and into the shoulder. Alanis-Alanis later admitted he intended to run the agents off the road,” the Department of Justice stated.
Eventually, Alanis-Alanis jumped out of his truck and fled on foot, however, he left his truck in gear and it was heading toward an elementary school. KRISTV reported that a border patrol agent had to jump in the truck and steer it away from the school.
Ultimately, agents caught up with Alanis-Alanis. He was arrested and charged with possession with the intent to distribute marijuana.
Alanis-Alanis pleaded guilty to the charges and was sentenced to 135 months in jail, followed by a three-year-term of supervised release.
