Driver Under the Influence Slams Into Tanker, Shuts Down Highway

Published:

Tanker CrashThe cause of a Friday accident between a car and a tanker on Bower Hill Road in Bridgeville, Pennsylvania has been released.

The incident occurred on the afternoon of Friday, February 8, 2013, when Devin D. Carter, 38, crossed the center line and struck the side of a tanker.  The accident caused the truck to spill diesel fuel across the roadway.

When police arrived, Carter was attempting to walk away from the scene.

According to the St. Clair Patch, authorities stopped Carter and issued a field sobriety test on him. Police say Carter was having trouble keeping his eyes open.  Carter told the authorities that he was “still recovering from a hangover from the Super Bowl,” even though the Super Bowl was five days prior.

Carter was arrested and transported to a local hospital for a blood test. “Carter already faces charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving and prohibited acts,” the St. Clair Patch reported.

The truck driver was not seriously injured in the crash.

Bower Hill Road was shut down for two hours while crews cleaned up the diesel spill.
