Father, Son Die While Cleaning Out Tanker

Asphalt Tanker

On Saturday, a father and son died after being overcome by fumes while cleaning out a tanker.

According to the Tampa Bay Times, the incident occurred on Saturday morning when 29-year-old Luis E. Gonzalez and his father, 53-year-old Ernesto Gonzalez were cleaning out the inside of an empty asphalt tanker at Barnett Transport in East Tampa, Florida.

Gonzalez’s friend told authorities that the Gonzalezs entered the tanker, because they suspected there was an obstruction in the tank.

Once inside, the men were overcome by fumes.  When first responders arrived, they found both men unconscious inside the tanker.

Both men died at the hospital.
