FMCSA Proposes Rule To Expedite Med Exam Results

FMCSA Proposes To Automate Med Exam Results For Expedited ReportingThere are many changes coming to the FMCSA’s medical exam program.  Today, the FMCSA proposed yet another change.

The FMCSA has proposed to require all certified medical examiners to use a new, automated Medical Examination Report.  The new system would replace the current MER Form.

Additionally, the FMCSA is proposing to require medical examiners to report the results of a driver’s physical examination to the FMCSA by the close of the business day through the agency’s portal.

The rule would also electronically submit a CDL and CLP holder’s identification, exam results and restriction information directly to state driver licensing agencies.

“Transmission of this information would allow authorized state and federal enforcement officials to be able to view the most current and accurate information regarding the medical status of the CMV driver, all information to the MEC, and the medical variance information to include the issued and expiration dates,” the proposed rule states.

The FMCSA is taking public comments regarding this proposed rule until July 9, 2013.
