Free Movie Night: The Buddy Holly Story

Published:

We’re back with another Free Movie Night, courtesy of your buddies who burn the midnight oil to find the best free flicks available. This week it’s an odd biopic of one of the first big stars of rock n’ roll, Buddy Holly.

First things first – Buddy Holly is played by notorious Hollywood wacko Gary Busey. Now it might not make much sense, seeing as how Busey is constantly in trouble with the law and the press these days. But we have to say, Busey shot this picture many years before his reported trouble, and we think you’ll be impressed at his transformation into the classic rocker.

One other thing of note – Busey and his fellow actors all played the music of Holly on camera and in the studio. It’s an interesting thing to hear how close they get, while still putting a little bit of a new spin on the old hits. Joaquin Phoenix did the same thing for his smash hit Johnny Cash biopic “Walk The Line.” By most accounts he was successful. Gary Busey also gave a good try, and you’ll probably find it favorable.
