Georgia I-285 Speed Limit To Increase On Friday

Published:

According to the Georgia DOT, a portion of I-285 will pick up speed tomorrow. The speed limit will be raised from 55 miles per hour to 65 for some portions of the perimeter south of I-20.

The speed limit for tractor trailers will be 65.

I-20’s East and West interchanges will stay set at a 55 mile per hour speed limit.

This change is part of a plan to implement a new Variable Speed Limit system which would allow a traffic operator to alter the speed limit based on current driving conditions.

According to the FHA, 261,000 drivers utilize I-285 each day, and very few actually abide by the speed limit.

The signs are currently installed, and the Georgia DOT will implement the change at noon, tomorrow.
