Large Carrier Plans 491 Layoffs

This week, YRC announced plans to shutdown its West Chester, Ohio location. The shutdown will affect nearly 300 jobs.

On Thursday, YRC filed a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification (WARN) with the state of Missouri, the St. Louis Business Journal reported.  In the notice, YRC announced it plans to permanently layoff 491 employees at the end of May.

YRC says that the employees who will be affected have already been notified.

It was originally estimated that only 128 employees would be laid off, but a plan leaked to Teamsters shows “64 local drivers and 54 long-haul road drivers at the St. Louis terminal would be out of work, as well as 7 mechanics and 3 office positions, for a total of 128 jobs lost,” the St. Louis Business Journal reported.

Carrier-wide, YRC plans for a reduction of 760 dock, shop, freight and office jobs and 452 driver jobs; of those, 639 freight and 343 driver jobs will be eligible to transfer to other terminals.
