Logging Truck Driver Saves Elderly Woman With Evasive Maneuver

Published:

A smart Canadian logging truck driver made a quick maneuver this morning that saved an elderly woman from serious injury.

The accident happened at 8:15 a.m. on Highway 6 this morning when the elderly woman pulled out on to the highway in front of the loaded logging truck.

Realizing that he could potentially collide with her vehicle, the driver made a crucial evasive maneuver, landing him in the ditch, and clipping her truck, but saving her from a much worse fate.

The Nelson Fire Department and City police responded to the accident, there were no injuries, and the woman was transported by police cruiser to a nearby hospital to be checked out.

The highway was closed for nearly an hour, and the closure due to the accident sent another motorist into a ditch – causing both the rig and an additional vehicle to be pulled out.

– No additional damage was caused to the logging truck.

It is unknown if the woman simply did not see the truck, or if she thought she had enough time.

“Nelson Fire Rescue would like to remind motorists to drive to the conditions and pay extra attention to other motorists. Reduced visibility and increased stopping distances due to weather changes are common this time of year.”

– Good work driver!
