While nationwide Roadcheck 2013 results may not be released for a few months, Maryland State Police have released preliminary results from Prince George County inspections.
According to a press release from the Maryland State Police, members of the Maryland State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division, law enforcement and regulatory officers teamed up for Roadcheck 2013. A inspection station was set up at FedEx Field in Landover.
Officers focused their efforts on trucks and buses traveling around the Capital Beltway. Overhead road signs and message boards on Interstate 495 notified drivers of the inspection station.
Police patrolled the area, looking for drivers who were attempting to avoid the inspection station.
Maryland State Police released these results:
-525 commercial vehicles were inspected
-101 were placed OOS for major safety defects
-19 drivers were placed OOS
-181 citations were issued
-284 warnings were given
“Similar operations will be conducted in the future as state and local police work together to reduce traffic injuries and deaths, while increasing safety on Maryland roads,” the press release states.
