Those heading East on I-84 through New York (near Danbury) can expect to be detoured around a major 10.2 million dollar bridge replacement project.
– The same shutdown happened on the West side nearly a month ago. The New York Department of Transportation closed the roadway to traffic at exit 1 (Westbound) over a weekend in September and directed traffic to Route 6 while wrecking crews demolished the bridge stretching over Dingle Ridge Road, and slid in a new one.
The same process will be repeated this weekend on the East side.
Drivers are going to be directed off of I-84 at exit 20, and onto I-684 until they reach exit 10 in Brewster. From their they will continue onto Route 6 and follow it back to Exit 1 in Danbury, Connecticut.
Closures begin at 5:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 19th and will last until the afternoon of Sunday the 20th.
Traffic backups are expected on both I-84 and I-684.
– Although this is expected to create a serious cluster situation over the weekend, it will actually save workers two years of work on the project. This is because temporary bridges will not have to be installed to keep traffic rolling.
