According to the Washington Department of Transportation, at approximately 7:00 p.m., a portion of the Interstate 5 bridge over the the Skagit River in Mount Vernon, Washington has collapsed.
The collapse sent cars and people into the water below. At this time, it is unclear whether or not there were any injuries.
“N/B and S/B lanes of I-5 Skagit River Bridge collapsed,” Washington State Trooper Mark Francis posted on Twitter. “People and cars in water.”
A witness told KOMO News that it appeared three cars went into the cold water below and people were sitting atop their cars, waiting to be rescued.
