According to Maine State Police, a single engine plane made an emergency landing near Falmouth on Southbound I-295 tonight around 5:00PM.
Traffic in the Southbound lanes of I-295 is crawling (due to this landing happening during rush hour), and authorities are urging motorists to find alternate routes.
Authorities are saying that the landing was actually made in Cumberland, and then taxied along the interstate for a period of time before the pilot decided to park the Cessna 152 in the median and passing lane.
Reports say that the pilot – Sachin Hejeji was uninjured, and no accidents have resulted from the emergency landing so far. It seems that the pilot experienced engine trouble while flying from Waterville to Portland Jetport.
Ted Talbot of the Maine Department of Transportation commented that the Maine State Police will load the plane onto a flat bed, and take it to a Yarmouth facility, and that the plane will be towed North in the Southbound lanes.
The Maine State Police have also commented that the plane was rented from Maine Aviation.
