Tanker Flip Causes Massive Gasoline Spill In Memphis Monday Morning

Published:

An accident involving a tanker truck shut down Sycamore View Road between Bartlett and Memphis yesterday.

The tanker truck, holding 8,000 gallons of gasoline lost control and overturned around 1AM Monday morning. According to authorities, the driver failed to properly negotiate the curve on Sycamore View, struck a curb, and lost control – flipping the truck.

Due to the tip over, the gasoline leaked into a nearby ditch and onto the roadway. Dikes had to be immediately dug by the Environmental Protection Agency’s Emergency Response team to prevent the gasoline from spilling into the storm drains, harming local wildlife, or igniting.

There’s also a good change that the spill will have eaten away at the pavement on the roadway, making road construction extremely unlikely in the near future.
