Tennessee Highway To Close Weekends Through October

According to a press release from the Tennessee Department of Transportation, a section of I-440 east, between I-65 and I-24, will we closed for the next ten weekends while crews work to complete “major concrete repairs.”

The project is expected to cost $9.7 million dollars but will widen the stretch of I-440 east.  TDOT says the weekends closures will help expedite the construction.

The project is tentatively scheduled to be complete by November 2013.

TDOT says it will use overhead signs to direct motorists around the closure.

  According to TDOT:

The first closure of I-440 East from I-65 to I-24 is scheduled to take place Friday, June 28th at 9:00 p.m. through Monday, July 1st, at 5:00 a.m. 

The next nine interstate closures are tentatively planned for the following weekends:

July 12th – July 15th

July 19th – July 22nd

July 26th – July 29th

August 2nd – August 5th

August 9th – August 12th

August 16th – August 19th

September 6th – September 9th

September 13th – September 16th

October 11th – October 13th

 

*All work is weather dependent and will be rescheduled in the event of rain or severe weather.

** There will be no construction or lane closures during the July 4th and Labor Day holiday weekends and during the weekend of the Titans’ first pre-season game on August 24th and regular season games during September..

Detours are as follows:

From the North, take I-65 South to the I-65/I-40 split over to I-24

From the South, take I-65 North to go to I-24/I-40 or take the Harding Place exit over to I-24

From the West, stay on I-40 East to the I-65/I-40 split over to I-24

If you are driving on I-440 Eastbound, drivers will be advised to take I-65 North over to I-24 or I-40.
