North Carolina Logging Truck Driver Killed In Accident

The North Carolina Highway Patrol is currently investigating the break failure which lead to the death of a logging truck driver in Swain County.

38-year-old Danny Taylor was driving a loaded truck down a steep grade on Williamson Road when his brakes failed. Taylor realized that there were road crews working on a bridge at that intersection with Conleys Creek Road, and was able to maneuver his truck to avoid hitting him.

According to the worksite supervisor, Taylor put the welfare of these workers above his own. Howell Jacobs of NHM Constructors, “I think he rode the truck out just because he knew that people were working here and he wanted to make sure that that truck didn’t hit nobody.”

Taylor’s truck crossed that bridge, slamming into the bank, and was killed at the scene.

Taylor was a Deacon at Serenity Baptist Chruch, and is survived my his wife of 16 years, 3 sons, mother, sister, and bother-in-law.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at Crisp Funeral Home in Bryson City.
