According to CBS sports, on Monday a 60-year-old truck driver died while making a delivery to the San Francisco 49ers Levi’s Stadium.
The San Jose Mercury News reported that the driver, Edward Erving Lake II, was crushed by the bundle of rebar he was unloading from his flatbed. Lake was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. Construction at the stadium was halted for the remainder of the day.
“While Cal-OSHA’s investigation is ongoing and could take months, they have told us that the job site has been deemed safe and is permitted to re-open,” the construction company, Turner/Devcon, said in a statement. “The site will open Tuesday morning. We will address our workers at that time and will also have the proper support systems in place to assist them in dealing with their emotions following this tragedy.”
“Our sincerest thoughts and prayers are with the family, friends and co-workers affected by this tragedy,” the team said.
California’s OSHA division is investigating the accident.
