Truck Driver Hit And Killed While Walking In Minnesota

Published:

A 49-year-old truck driver from California was struck and killed by a car in Rogers, Minnesota on Saturday.

According to the Star Tribune, police say that at approximately 5:12 p.m., the truck driver was walking along the shoulder of Rogers Drive, a I-94 outer road near Cabella’s, when a 21-year-old driver crossed the center line and westbound lane and struck the truck driver.  Investigators believe the truck driver was walking back to a nearby truck stop from the sporting goods store.

Police say the truck driver was instantly killed.

The 21-year-old driver says he fell asleep at the wheel.  Police do not believe drugs or alcohol were involved.  The driver was taken into custody for questioning and later released.

“We have witnesses who came upon the scene afterward, but if there’s anybody who actually saw the accident take place, we’d love to hear from them,” Rogers Police Chief Jeff Beahen told the Star Tribune.

The truck driver’s name has not been released.
