The driver of a tanker truck that collided with a freight train in west central Minnesota last week died from his injuries this morning at a St. Cloud hospital.
Six days ago, 45-year-old Eric Westin was transporting anhydrous ammonia from North Dakota to Missouri. As he crossed the train tracks near Murdock in Swift County, Minnesota, a freight train struck the truck and ruptured the tanker. The toxic gas was released into the air.
Three BNSF employees suffered minor injuries.
The road was closed for 2 days while crews worked to clean up the wreckage.
The crossing where the accident occurred had stop signs but no gate.
