Ready for another Truck Driver Songs from our long-running series? This week, we’re featuring one of the most famous trucker songs of all, “Convoy” by C.W. McCall.

As far as we know, Convoy is the only truck driver song that served as inspiration for an entire big budget Hollywood movie. Convoy was a huge radio hit in the 70s, and went on to be one of the most infamous Truck Driver Movies of all time, if not for its legendary production problems based on various elements.

The trucker song Convoy came at the peak of the CB fad in the United States. It sold over two million copies, and was awarded a gold disc by the R.I.A.A. in December 1975. It hit number 1 on the American country charts, and hit number 4 on the Canadian country charts. It was the first single from C.W.’s smash album Black Bear Road.

Although Convoy is considered a novelty song, it remains one of the biggest selling of the genre nearly 40 years later. The film based on the song, directed by legendary action director Sam Peckinpah, initially went over budget, but ended up grossing nearly 60 million, making it a smash hit and one of the higher grossing films of the 70s.

So take a journey back to the golden age of trucking on us. There will never be another song quite like Convoy again. Enjoy, truck drivers!
