We’re back with another Truck Driver Songs episode to tickle your ears while logging some miles. In this series, we look back at some classic trucking songs from decades past that sing the praises of the North American trucker and all they do for us.
This week, a classic country icon continues to tip his hat to the white line working class. Johnny Cash is popular with truck drivers and music fans everywhere. We’ve featured the Man In Black before, but this time we’re taking a listen to a cover song he did from an album of the same name in 1991. The Mystery of Life is a song first written and recorded by Joe Nixon. It was a modest hit by Cash’s usual standards, and came before the period of his “revival” engineered by Def American Records’ owner Rick Rubin.
The song is definitely an easy-going ballad to people who struggle for a living, and Johnny makes his first verse about a man who never had much more than the Peterbilt rumbling under his seat. We think you’ll love it.
