Last month, a truck driver was robbed, beaten and left for dead in North Carolina.
A motorist driving along Goldsboro Road saw 46-year-old Swift truck driver Wael Wael lying, unconscious in the median near I-95, north of Eastover, North Carolina.
Debbie Tanna, Cumberland County public information officer, told CDLLife that the driver’s truck was parked nearby. When authorities searched the truck, they found that the keys were still in the ignition and the driver’s cell phone and belongings appeared to be untouched.
Wael sustained severe injuries to the head and was taken to a local hospital.
Cumberland County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives reviewed video footage from a gas station near where Wael was found and identified two suspects.
This week, the Cumberland County Sheriff’s Homicide Detectives arrested Leroy Douglas, 37, and Lutina Oxendine, 38, and charged the pair with assault with a deadly weapon, inflicting serious injury, robbery with a deadly weapon and conspiracy.
The two have been jailed on a $100,000 secure bond.
Wael’s condition has not improved.
