VIDEO: Giant African Land Snails Invading Florida!

Published:

Giant African land snails are currently invading southern Florida in droves of over 1,000 a week.

Florida officials are worried because the snails carry disease, destroy concrete in search of calcium, and eat over 500 different plants. Currently, the Florida Department of Agriculture has a staff of 50 whose sole purpose is snail hunting. African land snails lay around 100 eggs per month and live up to 8 years, so they aren’t going anywhere for awhile.

The Florida Department of Agriculture says that it is making progress on getting rid of the snails, but it will be a slow process.
