This outlandish video from a few years back was caught by an on-duty Utah Highway Patrol officer who had pulled off of I-15 near Salt Lake, awaiting a stolen bus.
Sure enough, the stolen Canyons School District school bus cruised past – beginning a wild goose chase including a collision with a Police vehicle, and an extremely dangerous red light escape.
The driver made a valiant effort to throw the officers in pursuit off of the trail by veering toward off-ramps, and quickly swerving back on to the freeway.
“I can’t even imagine why anyone would steal a school bus,” said UHP Sgt. Larry Mower.
The stolen bus eventually turned up after it had been crashed into a tree – the driver fled the scene on foot.
There were no passengers on the bus at the time of the chase.
Steven Hardenbrook, age 38 was later apprehended and charged with both felony theft and criminal mischief for stealing the bus.
