I-40 Arkansas HazMat Accident Narrows Traffic To One Lane

Published:

Arkansas I-40 westbound – near mile marker 258 – will be reduced to one lane for the next week as a result of Saturday’s fiery accident. Traffic was detoured to I-70 (exit 260 for westbound traffic, and exit 256 for eastbound traffic).

I-40 traffic was backed up coming from both directions after a truck hauling HazMat (specifically, sodium picramate, a chemical used in hair coloring) crashed into the median and ignited around 8:00 a.m.

The fire caused a significant amount of damage to the westbound bridge above the Allen Bayou.

The driver survived the accident, though he did sustain some injuries. His condition is not yet known.
