UPS made a pretty serious mistake yesterday when they delivered a $400,000 drone to reddit user, Seventy_Seven – by accident.
Seventy_Seven – knowing that he had not ordered the device – contacted UPS to sort things out.
Here’s what they had to say:
“Just called UPS. They told me that it was one of the undelivered packages in their office, and asked if I’ve ever had an undelivered package. I said no, but he insisted that it was mine, and said that it was up to me if I want to keep it or not. I don’t think that’s the right way to go about this, so I’m going to call the number on the card, and get this sorted out.”
“The UPS guy on the phone had said that this had been in storage, and was something that had been lost in transit, or in some other way went undelivered. He kept saying that it was mine, and something that was intended to be delivered to me, but didn’t make it originally. Due to this, I feel like there isn’t an active search for this thing, at least not yet. I’m not stressing too much, and I am going to call.”
Fortunately, Seventy_Seven was able to reach the NOAA. Eventually, he was informed that the delivery was one of eight pieces of a weather/environment/wildlife surveillance drone. He later spoke with a man with a Commander title, and arranged to drop off the package with a UPS Security Head.
