Bridge Over Interstate 78 in Pennsylvania to Be Removed

Published:

PennDOT is alerting drivers in the Bethel Township area that construction on the Airport Road Bridge over Interstate 78 will begin today.

Last weekend, a truck that was hauling a large piece of construction equipment struck the bridge’s beams, damaging the structure.

Today, crews will begin work to remove the center span of the three-span bridge.

“During this work I-78 east and west will be restricted to a single lane between exits 13 (PA 501) and 15 (Grimes). The single lane conditions are expected to remain in place until the workers are ready to remove bridge beams on Saturday (Aug. 16),” PennDOT said.

On Saturday, August 16, I-78 will be completely shut down at exit 13 (PA 501) and exit 16 (Midway) for 15 hours while crews remove overhead beams.

I-78 east traffic will follow a Green Arrow Detour and I-78 west traffic will follow an Orange Arrow Detour.

Thanks so much for the tip, Wayne.
