Con-way Truckload Driver Celebrates 4 Million Safe Miles

Published:

Con-way Truckoad today announced that a “special recognition event” was held to honor owner-operator Jon Smith for surpassing the 4 million safe miles milestone.

Smith began his career with Con-way Truckload in 1984 as a company driver and became an owner operator in 1996.

“I wanted the freedom of owning my own business,” said Smith. “As an independent contractor, your success is totally on you, which, over the past 4 million miles, gave me a real sense of accomplishment. Con-way Truckload has been a good partner for me over the past 30 years, but I own my success and I’m proud of it.”

Con-way Truckload president Saul Gonzalez said that Smith’s accomplishment “speaks volumes about his dependability and loyalty as a professional driver.”

“This is an astonishing milestone that sets a standard for other drivers to aspire to. We are proud of, and thankful for, his commitment,” Gonzalez said.

Con-way illustrated Smith’s accomplishment by saint it would take a person driving 24 hour a day, at 65 mph, 2,640 days to reach 4 million miles.

Jon, also know as “Smitty,” lives in Joplin with his wife, Tina.  The couple have 4 children and 10 grandchildren.

Great job, driver!

Con-way currently has 245 independent contractors within the company’s full fleet of professional drivers.
