This year marks the 35th anniversary of the Iowa 80 Trucker Jamboree, and the truck stop plans to celebrate the milestone anniversary in a big way…with a big star!
This year’s Iowa 80 Trucker Jamboree will feature an legendary country artist. On Friday, July 11, 2014, country music superstar John Anderson will perform at 7:00 p.m.
Anderson has had a long career in country music. He’s racked up more than 40 Billboard chart-toping singles, including five number ones: “Wild and Blue“, “Swingin’“, “Black Sheep“, “Straight Tequila Night“, and “Money in the Bank“.
“To best celebrate the 35th anniversary of the Walcott Truckers Jamboree, the team behind Mobil Delvac intends to put on a truly special show,” said Marci Crigger, commercial vehicle lubricants marketing advisor at ExxonMobil Fuels and Lubricants, a division of Exxon Mobil Corporation. “John Anderson is a country music legend who has taken the stage at two previous Mobil Delvac-sponsored concerts, and we’re confident he will deliver yet another unforgettable performance for the hard-working truckers and local community members in attendance.”
In addition, this year also marks the 50th anniversary of the Iowa 80 truck stop! “It’s a dual celebration this year,” says Delia Moon Meier. “We are celebrating America’s truckers and celebrating Iowa 80 Truckstop’s 50th Anniversary. We are honored to have been able to serve professional drivers for the past 50 years and look forward to another 50 and beyond,” says Meier.
The very first Trucker Jamboree began as a small cookout event, with just a few exhibits, live music and a display of antique trucks. Thirty five years later, the show hosts tens of thousands of attendees. Last year, over 42,000 people enjoyed the free show.
“It’s amazing to think that we started this event 35 years ago. My dad thought we should celebrate and honor drivers, and show them how much we appreciate the job they do,” says Delia Moon Meier, Iowa 80 Senior Vice President. “We can’t think of a better way to say Thank You than to celebrate trucking and promote the industry in a positive way. It’s something everyone at Iowa 80 believes in.”
As usual, the Walcott Trucker Jamboree will feature the Super Truck Beauty Contest, Antique Truck Show and the famous and delicious Iowa pork chop cookout. The show is a family even and there’s always something for everyone. The kids will enjoy carnival games, fireworks and live music.
Admission and parking are always FREE at the Trucker Jamboree.
