Driver’s Wife Struck, Killed By Truck At NY Truck Stop

Published:

Authorities say the 61-year-old wife of a truck driver has died after she was struck by a box truck pulling into a truck stop off Interstate 90 in Pembroke, New York.

The Genesee County Sheriff’s Office said Carolyn V. Baltzell of Hot Springs, Arkansas was crossing the parking lot of the Flying J plaza near the diesel pumps when she was hit shortly after noon Sunday.

Deputies say she was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials say Baltzell and her husband had just left the truck stop’s restaurant and were walking to their truck when the accident occurred.

The box truck driven by a 56-year-old Canadian man was pulling in the station to fuel up and probably didn’t see Baltzell, authorities said.

The plaza is just off Exit 48A off the New York state Thruway 25 miles east of Buffalo.

No charges are pending at this time but the investigation is ongoing.
