Over 3,000 privacy screens have been purchased by England’s Highways Agency to prevent rubbernecking around accident scenes on the roadways.
It is the hope of the Highways Agency that the privacy partitions will deter motorists from slowing down to gawk at crashes which should allow traffic to move at a steady pace and expedite accident cleanup.
The screens will be distributed in roughly 105 sets and will be utilized next year.
‘Sets’ consist 30 screens which are loaded on trailers specifically designed to carry the screens.
This initiative is predicted to cost £2.3 million (£22,000 per set).
Roads minister, Stephen Hammond is hoping that, “People will recognize these screens, recognize that something’s happening behind it, but actually realize it won’t impact on their motorway – there’s nothing to see, and we want to keep the motorways flowing.”
