HHG Association Seeks HOS Exemption

Published:

According to the FMCSA Federal Register, the International Association of Movers (IAM) has applied for an HOS exemption.
The Register states that the IAM is seeking “an exemption from FMCSA’s regulation prohibiting operators of commercial vehicles (CMVs) from following the 14th hour rule after coming on duty.”
The request is on behalf of all FMCSA-authoritzed HHGs carriers, “regardless of membership in IAM or any other professional society.”
According to the request, the exemption would only apply to drivers who need to move their vehicles from a customer’s residence or military base to a safe place for parking.
“In no case would the drivers be permitted to drive more than 75 miles or 90 minutes after the 14th hour.”
The FMCSA has requested the publics’ input on the exemption.
