Hundreds of Drivers Stranded on I-40, I-55 in Arkansas

Published:

Icy conditions, along with multiple crashes, have stranded hundreds of motorists on Interstate 40 and 55 in East Arkansas for hours.  The backup began on Monday afternoon and it hasn’t gotten much better since.

The drivers reportedly spend the night in their vehicles, and many drivers said they ran out of fuel.

The situation is so dire, Arkansas Governor Beebe is announced he is coordinating state efforts to assist the stranded motorists.  The National Guard and State Troopers have been checking on the commuters, while the state’s Game and Fish Commission has been helping deliver fuel to the vehicles that have run out.

Drivers are reporting to CDLLife that the weigh stations are jam-packed with trucks and truck stops in the area are filled over capacity.
