Illinois State Police Identify Victim of Fatal I-80 Crash

Published:

The truck driver killed in Sunday’s Interstate 80 crash has been identified by Illinois State Police as Sean K. Fergeson, 47, of Everett, Washington.

Police said Fergeson was killed after rear-ending a truck parked on the westbound shoulder of I-80, two miles east of Genesco.

“The one semi was off to the side, was broken down, and had its four-way flashers and reflective signals displayed,”  Trooper Jason Wilson told WQAD. “The other semi crossed over onto the shoulder and struck the parked semi.”

Fergeson was pronounced dead at the scene. The other truck’s driver and co-driver were in the cab at the time of the incident, but were uninjured, police said.

Police said the crash happened at 4:47 a.m. between Atkinson and Geneseo at milepost 22. Westbound lanes were shut down for several hours and traffic rerouted, with all lanes back open just after 7 p.m.
