Men Charged With Theft Of Laundry Detergent Load Valued At $60,000

Published:

Two Chicago-area men have been charged with theft after allegedly stealing a tractor-trailer loaded with $60,000 worth of laundry detergent.

Thirty-year-old Omar Daraghma and 25-year-old Theair Kartoum have each been charged with theft and possession of a stolen motor vehicle (both of which are felonies) according to the Orland Park Police Department.

The incident was reported by the trucking company around 10:00AM last Saturday.

Surveillance video recorded by the trailer owner showed it being pulled from the lot by a white 2004 Freightliner just after midnight.

It was later discovered that the tractor was owned by a Darien resident who had parked it on a Bolingbrook Frontage Road.

The trailer was later found in Orland Park, backed up to a loading dock.

Police were able to apprehend the two men responsible for stealing the detergent load. According to the suspects, they were being paid $100 each to unload the trailer – however they would not disclose the name of the individual who hired them.

Daraghma and Kartoum were given the option to be held on a $50,000 recognizance bond with monitoring, or in jail with a $20,000 bond.

Their court date is scheduled for February 18th.
