Reports are coming in about a multiple vehicle pileup on Interstate 80 near the 117 mile marker, near Waukee, just west of Des Monies.
The Iowa Department of Transportation reported that the road is completely covered with ice.
Traffic in the area is backed up for miles.
“It’s the same story on Hwy 169 north of I-80 with lanes completely shut due to another 25+ pile-up according to State Patrol’s Sgt. Bright. I-35 at the Cummings exit has a jackknifed semi in the northbound lane. Traffic is being rerouted around the accident,” WHO-TV reported.
Update 7:30 p.m.: Poor weather conditions and roads backed up with traffic accidents are preventing MidAmerican Energy from reaching a location with a power outage that has left more than 200 customers without power.
