New Hampshire Senate Approves Fuel Tax Increase

The New Hampshire Senate today approved a 4.2-cent fuel tax increase.

The state’s fuel tax has remained at 18-cents per gallon since the early 1990s.

The $32 million projected revenue will go to repair the state’s road projects such as road and bridge maintenance and the widening of I-93.  In addition, the bill will eliminate tolls in Merrimack.

The bill initially proposed to adjust the fuel tax rate with the inflation rate, however, that measure was struck down.

The bill will now move to the New Hampshire House, where it is expected to pass.  The bill will then go to Governor Maggie Hassan’s desk, and she says she’ll sign it.
