Person Killed In OKC After Container Falls Off Truck, Crushing Pickup

One person was killed Thursday afternoon after a shipping container full of weight-lifting equipment fell on top of a pickup truck on the northeast side of Oklahoma City.

The military transport vehicle transporting the cargo was heading east on Northeast 23rd street whet it hit a low railroad bridge, dislodging the container and causing the vehicle to spin about 180 degrees, police reported. The orange container fell on a white pickup truck driving in the northbound lane, killing one person inside and injuring an second.

Police shut down NE 23rd Street from Sooner Rd. Air Depot Blvd. while crews from Midwest City and Oklahoma city responded to the accident. The bridge remains intact, police said.

A family friend contacted News Channel 9 Thursday evening to report the person in the truck was 49-year-old William H. Santee of Harrah.

The second person’s name and physical condition remain unknown. The driver of the military transport vehicle was uninjured.
