Proposed Bill Would Increase Florida Speed Limits

The maximum speed limit in Florida has been 70 mph since 1996.  If a newly introduced bill is approved, the maximum speed limit will increase to 75 mph.

SB 392 will allow the Florida Department of Transportation to raise the speed limit on 4-lane rural highways by 5 mph.  Highways that are currently 70 mph limits could increase to 75 mph, while highways with 60 mph limits may increase to 65 mph.

The goal, says lawmakers, is to increase traffic flow and decrease congestion.

On Thursday, SB 392 was approved by the Senate Transportation Committee.
