A rest area homicide, highway chase and the shooting of a suspect shuts down a portion of Interstate 694 near Maple Grove, Minnesota in the early morning hours of Wednesday.
The incident began at a Maple Grove rest area.
At approximately 1:00 am on Wednesday, police were called to the Elm Creek rest area on Interstate 94 on a report of a shooting.
When police arrived, they found one man dead.
Witness said the suspect fled and were able to provide police with a vehicle description.
Moments later, a vehicle matching the suspect’s vehicle was spotted near the I-694 and I-94 split.
Multiple police agencies, including the Minnesota State Patrol helicopter, chased the suspect vehicle.
The suspect crashed into the median on I-694, near Rice Street. The suspect then got out of the vehicle and reportedly brandished a weapon. Â Police shot the suspect and he died at the scene.
A portion of I-694 was shut down between I-35W in Arden Hills and I-35E in Little Canada for several hours, while authorities investigated the incident.
Neither the victim’s, nor the suspect’s names have been released.
