VIDEO: St. Louis Amtrak Train Strikes Tractor-Trailer

Published:

Amtrak’s service in Kirkwood (west of St. Louis, Missouri) was interrupted around 4:00 p.m. last night when the train struck a tractor-trailer at approximately 15 miles-per-hour.

Kirkwood is the first stop on the train’s afternoon route (known as the Missouri River Runner) from St. Louis to Kansas City.

According to Amtrak, there is not much damage to the train, and crews were able to quickly remove the semi from the tracks.

Passengers commented that the accident felt less like a collision, and more like a routine stop. There were two minor injuries to train passengers reported. Amtrak was carrying a total of 59 passengers at the time of the accident.

The rig was hauling a light empty trailer, and became stuck in the three inches of snow and ice on the tracks.
