Truck Driver’s Bomb Fears Prompt Evacuation, Lead to Driver’s Arrest

Published:

A strange story out of Pennsylvania today….

According to WHTM ABC 27, a 25-year-old Florida truck driver who believed there might be bombs on his truck prompted an evacuation of homes in Union Township, Pennsylvania today.

The driver, Dany Medina, reportedly called police and said that someone had been following him.  Pennsylvania troopers went to the truck stop and spoke with Medina, but Medina failed to give a description of the suspicious vehicle.  Troopers reportedly told Medina to call them back when he could offer more information.

Moments after troopers left, police were called back to the truck stop after the Love’s manager said Medina was refusing to leave the fuel island.  Troopers retuned to the truck stop. Medina told the troopers that he was afraid to start his truck for fear that it might explode.

Troopers asked Medina to leave the truck stop.

According to Fox 43, Medina left the truck stop and “at the light at Fisher Avenue, police say Medina turned right from the straight lane, nearly striking on of the state police cruisers sitting in the right turn lane. Medina continued down Fisher Avenue towards Route 72/ two state police cruisers activated their lights and sirens. Medina turned left onto Route 72 through a red light, ignoring the lights and sirens. There was a trooper in front of Medina and two behind his truck as he traveled north on Route 72.  Troopers say Medina tried to pass the trooper in front of him. Then he pulled right into the PSP Jonestown parking lot. He got out of his truck and ran for the front door of the barracks.”

Authorities say Medina was unaware the building he ran to was a police station.

Medina was taken into custody at the front door.

The police station was evacuated while Medina’s truck was searched for explosives– none were found.

Medina has been charged with reckless endangerment, resisting arrest and terroristic threats.
