TravelCenters of America Accepting Nominations for 2nd Citizen Driver Competition

Published:

TravelCenters of America announced they’re now accepting nominations for the second Citizen Driver campaign.  The program has been designed to recognize drivers who have demonstrated exemplary citizenship in the driving community, have safe driving records and those who help out others in their own communities.

Anyone can nominate a driver for the ‘Citizen Driver’ program.  Nomination will be accepted through September 30, 2014.

The Citizen Driver program was launched last year to recognize and reward drivers who have gone above and beyond to shine a positive light on the trucking industry.

The winners of the first Citizen Driver campaign were selected by a panel of industry judges and the winners names were announced at MATS.  Citizen Driver winners will also be honored in a renaming and dedication ceremony.

“We saw many outstanding drivers among the 2014 nominees,” said Tom O’Brien, President and CEO of TravelCenters. “I encourage everyone who knows and works with truckers to think about and nominate a worthy driver. And, the more we know about them — the more you can share on the nomination form — the better. Don’t hold back. Tell us how much of an impact you feel the nominee has made on those around them,” he continued.

“Seven nominees, including a team, were named Citizen Drivers and had a TA or Petro location of their choice named for them. The signs have all been changed at these locations, and dedication ceremonies will take place over the coming weeks,” TA said in a statement.

The ceremony dates and times are:

  • May 7, 1 p.m. – Linda and Bob Caffee — Petro N. Las Vegas, NV — “Linda and Bob Caffee North Las Vegas Stopping Center”
  • May 10, 1 p.m. – Jimmy Ardis — TA Manning, SC — “Jimmy Ardis Manning Travel Center”
  • May 15, 1 p.m. – Shawn Hubbard — Petro Ontario, CA — “Shawn Hubbard Ontario Stopping Center”
  • May 16, 2 p.m. – Jerry Fritts — Petro West Memphis, AR — “Jerry Fritts West Memphis Stopping Center”
  • May 17, 1 p.m. – Charley Endorf — Petro York, NE — “Charley Endorf York Stopping Center”

  • May 28, 11 a.m. – Henry Albert — TA Laredo, TX — “Henry Albert Laredo Travel Center”

“We are extremely proud to play a role in support of the companies and drivers that make up the great truck driving industry,” shared Tom O’Brien, President and CEO of TravelCenters. “Our customers log millions of miles each year and move the freight that keeps the U.S. economy going. We do our best to provide them with unparalleled hospitality, customer service and tools they need to be successful in their businesses, because they deserve it. Our ‘Citizen Driver’ award is a way to recognize the best of the best, not just for being good at their jobs, but for being good people that everyone, everywhere, both inside and outside of trucking, can admire and respect. A ‘Citizen Driver’ is intended to be someone the whole trucking industry is proud to be associated with, and whose stories should be heard by their peers and those outside the industry,” he added.
