Two Truck Drivers Arrested For Stealing 350 Gallons of Fuel

Published:

Two men were arrested late Monday night after allegedly stealing 350 gallons of fuel at a Love’s truck stop in Salt Lake City, Utah.

Adolpho Fonts, 40, and Orlando Villarta-Mendez, 51, were arrested after the store clerk noticed two trucks taking an unusually long time to pump a small amount of diesel fuel, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.

“They were tampering with a fuel meter, which caused them to appear to be taking out less fuel than they were actually taking,” Detective Dennis McGowan told KSL News.

According to police documents, the suspects allegedly stole $1,370.52 worth of fuel and caused about $1,000 worth of damage to the pump pulser device and lock.

Officials arrested Fonts at the pump and caught up with Villarta-Mendez on an I-80 westbound on-ramp. Both men were taken into custody on suspicion of theft and criminal mischief.

McGowan said both men were compliant and did not resist arrest. Both trucks have since been impounded.
