On Sunday morning, a Utah Highway Patrol trooper got the scare of his life.
Trooper James Wright was sitting on the shoulder of Interstate 15, finishing up his paperwork, when his patrol car was suddenly sideswiped by a passing truck.
The truck skidded down the side of the patrol car and kept on going.
Utah Highway Patrol Lieutenant Rich Christianson told 2News that Wright had looked up to see a truck mere inches from his face.
Wright immediately took off after the truck.
When officers caught up with the truck, they noticed the truck’s driver, 49-year-old Steven Sturgis Bell, showed signs of impairment. Â He was given and failed a sobriety test. Â Officers on the scene say Bell tried to flee the scene but he was quickly captured.
Bell was arrested for suspicion of felony drug possession and misdemeanor counts of DUI, possession of drug paraphernalia and resisting arrest.
